The City of God Bible Art Mural Project brings together the Anglican Parish of Christ the King in the City of God in Rio de Janeiro, international mural artist Joel Bergner and local people. In 2010 and 2011 we produced murals of the Garden of Eden, the Last Supper and the New Jerusalem. In 2013 the project takes to the streets to produce two murals for Prophets' Square and Easter Square. Follow the adventure here over the coming days...

Joel's Last Supper
Joel's been busy sketching out the Last Supper today in readiness for the young people who will arrive tomorrow to start painting. I asked him what he was trying to achieve:
"My version of the Last Supper is influenced by the original biblical story and, as it was a celebration of the Passover, includes images from the Exodus from Egypt. However, the scene is not simply a replica of the Gospel account but instead features a typical Brazilian family in the City of God. In this way I intend to address the story's original themes of liberation and redemption in a contemporary context that relates to local residents' lives."
